“Painting from direct observation of the landscape has been for me an important part of art practice. Even though a lot of my work is produced in the studio I find that painting from direct observation is a rewarding and surprising experience that refreshes the vocabulary of visual language. So apart from being an enjoyable activity and an important art form in itself, it also enriches other artistic styles .”
