Amazon Hitchhiker:A Woman's Adventures from Canada to Brazil is the true story of Alycin Hayes, a young woman who hitchhikes alone in the 1970s across the USA, Mexico, and Central America to the Amazon Basin. On the spur of the moment, she buys an old dugout canoe, thinking she can paddle from Colombia to Brazil.

Without enough food or even a map, she soon discovers the Amazon rainforest is not  the idyllic paradise she had imagined. She forges her way through this challenging, sometimes mystical adventure, facing life-threatening obstacles, while falling in love on the journey

With candid honesty and a lifesaving sense of humor, Hayes has written an account of her travels that you won't want to put down.

Milo and the Mustang by Alycin Hayes

Winner of Morrow Book Award "Great Kid Books for RoadTrips"

"A Children's Book With Unique Beginnings

Author, Alycin Hayes gave a little boy, named Milo Austin Olsen who has severe autism and cerebral palsy riding lessons on her Mustang horse. Milo's immediate connection with her horse inspired her to write this story.  Milo now an severely challenged adult chose the final cover and illustrations used in the book. The beautiful illustrations were painted by deaf artist, Beverly Marie Melton.
The font and large print of the text were chosen to make this book easier to read for children with visual problems. The art work was designed to appeal to special needs children who identify with more realistic art.  The consistent layout - with the illustrations and text in the same place on each page - feels very safe to the autistic reader who craves routine.
Children who read this adventure story identify with Milo before the find out that he has special needs. Interestingly, it turns out that children often like the story even more than many adults. This could be because the ending of the story can raise questions that may be difficult for parents to answer. The best children books don't have patronizing happy endings."

Blake: Innocence and Experience a play by Elliott Hayes,
Blake is a one man autobiographical play about England's famous poet William Blake. The script is comprised of Blake's visionary and witty mind as told by Blake himself.

The play takes Blake from his childhood when he was loved and encouraged by parents who realized he would never make it through regular school, to the young teenager who fell in love with language to the degree of teaching himself Greek, Hebrew and Latin. It continues on to tell of the great love of his life, Catherine, with whom he is married until death.

At one moment the play is sad and tragic, and then flips to humor. Beautifully written each chapter of Blake's life is exposed whether it be beautiful or painful.  To buy or perform this play go to PlayWrights Guild of Canada - Canadian Play Outlet
